The attic stairs - De zoldertrap

Last time I left you with the first floor stairs finished as well as the entry hallway.
Today I want to take you through to the second floor and show you the stairs to the attic.

If this were a real house, it would be impossible to go to the attic as the stairs end up in a dead end. Considering the shape of the roof, the stairs reach the attic outside of the roof.
But this is a dollhouse world, and in this world everything is possible.
The stairs to the attic are very narrow and one wonders if the box of stuff will ever fit but again, in this world everything is possible ;-)

Spray Paint drying in the garden. De verf droogt buiten in de tuin.

Someone brought a box for the attic. Iemand heeft een doos neergezet voor zolder

A few steps and the rest is hidden behind the wall.

Nothing is glued. Niets is vastgelijmd.

I made the light from half a clear plastic ball from a chewingum ball machine.

I still have to hang and wire the light which means adding the attic floor (ceiling for the second floor). And that in turn means there is no turning back. I am dreading glueing walls and ceilings as some areas can not be reached should I need to change something.
So instead I made the living room floor and I am procrastinating.

    Groetjes, Ilona

  3. Hi Veronique! I love what you are doing with this kit!!! In my Old Farmhouse we had an attic stairs that was only 20 inches wide! It went up "inside" the wall behind the fireplace and came to a tiny room under the eaves with only one tiny window on the end wall.... so I know it is "real" in your house! LOL! I love the light fixture too.... so creative and lovely! And the louvered window is a great idea..... I love the shadows it casts! And I completely understand your anxiety about gluing those walls.... take your time and think of the other rooms and let those little details which you remember later come to you before you glue anything!!! I almost forgot to run the wiring for the front porch light on my Willowcrest... and it needed to run across the floor of the upstairs hallway!!! At that point I decided to make a "wiring plan" for all the lights of the house... and even with that I managed to forget to run wires for the attic lights before I glued the Mansard roof in place.... I am still trying to correct that mistake! LOL! I think it was wise to work on the living room floor instead... and it is looking wonderful so far! I can't wait to see more! :)

    1. O dear! The attic light! Completely forgot about that. Thank you for pointing that out.
I had better draw the complete lighting plan and think things through a little better still...

  4. It is so fascinating to follow your progress… The attic stairs turned out awesome - and I really agree with you, sometimes it's needed that realism and the kit's options find a consensus (I'm always glad that I usually don't have to deal with problems and thoughts of this kind - that's the advantage when you're building houses for talking bearies and snowmen… how much realism is needed for this? *LOL*) The window looks terrific, I really loved the photo taken through the window from the outside, its shadows bring so much atmosphere. And your little moving banana box made me smile… I can really understand why you're hesitating with gluing everything in place, as Betsy already said, take your time to make up your mind what's needed before you'll regret some day that you did not think enough about it. And working on the living room floor instead was for sure a good alternative! ;O)

    1. Thanks Birgit, you are lucky indeed that you can let your fantasy run wild. You snowman's home is awesome by the way.
I am not sure I am in control of this project but we will see where it takes me ;-)

  6. Your louvered windows are Sensational Veronique! :D
They are Fresh and Modern and BRIGHT! They entirely suit this house and visually open the windows while still allowing for privacy! Your faux attic staircase is Absolutely Wonderful as it not only gives you more wall space for additional Gauguin Paintings, but not having the staircase in the middle of the house means more room for- ROOMS!
    Just BRILLIANT! :D

    1. Thank you Elizabeth, yes I definitely need more room! It just seems such a waste of a perfectly good attic to have a staircase and chimney in the middle of it.
I do struggle with the poor quality of the wood, especially the window trims. The louvred part is also designed to divert attention from the trim itself ;-)
