Music box - Muziekdoos

Because of the long heatwave that hit the Netherlands, I wanted to work on something small and easy to handle and I ordered a music box kit.

Vanwege de lange hittegolf waar wij onder hebben geleden, wilde ik iets kleins en makkelijks hebben om aan te werken dus bestelde ik een muziekdoos kit.

It's all really small and fiddly. Ideal to take on holiday if you don't have a big suitcase. But there's no need for creativity as all the materials are provided as are very clear instructions. It was fun to do while it was so hot.

Het is echt erg klein en priegelig. Ideaal om mee te nemen op vakantie in een klein koffer. Je hebt er echter geen creatieve inbreng bij nodig omdat alle materialen erbij zitten en de instructies duidelijk zijn. Tijdens de hitte was het wel een leuk project om te maken.

The tinies love to play in the attic of the Willowcrest. They love their new book and have been playing nicely together.

De kleintjes spelen graag op de zolder van de Willowcrest. Ze zijn erg blij met hun nieuwe boek en hebben braaf samen gespeeld.

Now that the weather is back to normal I will be working on the Willowcrest again. Lots of wiring to do, lamps to make and an exterior to finish. In other words, plenty of work ahead! To be continued...

Nu het weer weer normaal is ga ik verder met de Willowcrest. Elektriciteitsdraden trekken, lampen maken en de buitenkant afmaken. Met andere woorden, heel veel werk in het verschiet! Wordt vervolgd...

It rained! - Het heeft geregend!

Not a whole lot, but at least the temperature is back to normal and there are clouds in the sky. Holland is famous for it's clouded skies, every Dutch master painted them. But the last month and a half, we only had cloudless bright blue skies. Very eerie.


Niet veel maar in ieder geval is de temperatuur weer normaal en er zijn wolken in de lucht. Onze oude meesters zouden met hun handen in hun haar hebben gezeten met die strak blauwe luchten!

The garden is still dead and unfortunately the birds are not back yet. It's a sad sight outside: brown and silent. However, more rain has been predicted (read: promised) so all is not lost!

De tuin is nog steeds dood en de vogels zijn nog steeds niet terug. Het is een dorre stille aanblik. Hopelijk brengt de beloofde regen verlichting.

In the meantime, to escape the heat and having to handle a big dollhouse, I ordered a tiny kit. Even though the weather has improved, I will finish this first. Can't do everything at the same time can I?

In de tussentijd, om geen zwaar poppenhuis te hoeven verplaatsen, heb ik een hele kleine kit besteld. En ook al is het weer nu normaal, ik ga deze eerst afmaken voor ik verder ga met het grote huis. Ik kan immers niet alles tegelijk doen.

So far the kit is really great. The only trouble I have is finding the right battery, but that's because the store that has them is closed for vacation.


Tot nu toe is het een hele fijne kit. Het enige probleem tot nu toe is het vinden van de juiste batterij, maar dat komt omdat de winkel die alles heeft bij ons op het dorp gesloten is wegens vakantie.

I have a few more miniatures to make before I assemble the walls and put it all together.  In the end it is supposed to look like this:

Ik moet nog enkele miniaturen maken voordat ik de muren in elkaar zet en alles kan inrichten. Als het klaar is moet het er zo uitzien:

It's a revolving music box.  Het is een draaiende muziekdoos.

Wrought iron - smeedijzer

The only miniature made is a wrought iron window for the bathroom.
I made it from quilling paper.

Het enige dat ik heb gemaakt is dit smeedijzeren raam van quilling papier.

It is too hot to handle the Willowcrest. I put it on a little chest of drawers a few weeks ago when I cleaned my house and that is where it still waits for cooler days.


Het is the warm om met de Willowcrest te slepen. Die staat al een paar weken op een kastje en blijft daar tot het koeler is.

I went away for a few days, visiting my highschool friend in Belgium. I used to live in Wallonia, Belgium. The French speaking part.

Ik ben een paar dagen naar Wallonië geweest, op bezoek bij mijn vriendinnetje van de lagere en middelbare school. Ik heb daar gewoond.

For the overseas readers: Belgium has 3 official languages and governments, plus a national government. The country is the size of a postage stamp and counts 11 million people.
Confused? So is everyone else ;-)

It was just as hot there as it was here but we did go out and went to see this see-through church. It's an art project.

Het was daar net zo warm als hier maar we zijn er toch op uit getrokken. We zijn naar dit Doorkijkkerkje geweest (heeft ooit in de Kampioen gestaan). Het is kunst in een veld.

I only stayed 3 days. The other days, it was so hot I hardly did anything but go swimming at sunset.

Ik ben maar drie dagen weggeweest. De afgelopen dagen is het zo heet dat ik niets doe behalve zwemmen bij zonsondergang.

I just heard on the news that some people in Finland are spending the night in their supermarket, the only airconditioned, cool place! What a great idea!


Ik hoorde net op het nieuws dat in Finland mensen in de rij staan om in hun supermarkt te overnachten. Lekker koel!
