This and that - Ditjes en datjes

Not much finished in the miniature world. Real life got in the way.
I am still working on Angélique's dress. We are both sneaking around making sure Art doesn't see it, that's why the photo is on the dark side
Here's a first fitting:

Niet veel gedaan in de miniaturen wereld. Het echte leven kwam er tussendoor.
Ik ben nog steeds bezig met Angélique's jurk. We doen het erg stiekem zodat Art er niet achterkomt. daarom is de foto ook wat aan de donkere kant. Dit is de eerste keer dat ze hem past.

I have also managed to track down the painting of my great grandfather in his gypsy costume. The painting used to hang in my grandmother's house but it is unclear which opera it came from.
This is either from an opera where he was a gypsy baron in The Gypsy Baron by Johan Sttauss II

Or he is the lover in Zigeunerliebe (gypsy love) bij Franz Lehar. I have found a clip of what that sounds like on a typical Dutch street organ. :-)

When I chose gypsies to inhabit the house, I had no idea of this at all. But this proves that when working on an ancestor's home, some things just come your way ....

I am also working on a secret project so posting it on a public blog won't do. So please bear with me, all will be revealed in good time...

  1. Oh, the gown is looking Very good! She looks so bright and excited in this picture!!! Of course, it is tricky making the gown and keeping it secret from the Groom...! Sometimes they forget that they must not barge into rooms at this delicate time! You must establish a clear "No Passing" zone to be sure!
The painting of your ancestor is fascinating! And the discovery of this history is a wonderful accident of Fate! One must never underestimate Destiny!!!
I can't wait to see the Secret project...!
But I can understand the RL part....my house is swarming with Electricians at the moment! (But it is all for the good... just disruptive!)

    1. Hi Betsy, what a good idea! A "No Passing Zone". There must be a printie out there for this occasion!
As fore the painting, it will be posted on a website for Dutch opera singers, with sound samples of the artists, including my great grandfather. How cool is that! I'll be sure to post a link by then.
The secret project is the first thing I make for someone else so hoping they'll like. I even have blisters from wickering... :-)
Hope the electricians finish the work in your house quickly and maybe they can give some tips for the miniature electrics as well :-)
Thank you for reminding me I have to make chairs! I had completely forgotten....

  4. Hello Veronique! I can see that you and Angelique have been very busy getting the wedding preparations underway! Her wedding dress is not nearly so elaborate as the typical gypsy wedding dresses that I have seen, which are more like ball gowns and layer upon layer of white tulle! Angelique has more refined tastes, it seems. How interesting about the painting of your great grandfather! I honestly believe that a some point, these little habitations take on a life of their own, and This proves it! Now I can hardly wait for the wedding day!

    1. Thank you Elizabeth! Her dress is indeed more elegant than I had feared :-) I suppose Art has a good influence on her. He doesn't know it yet, but he's also getting a new outfit. Can't have him marrying in jeans can we? Trousers have never been my forte in 1:1, so I am dreading the miniature version!

    2. Veronique, I am certain that that man can wear a potato sack and still be just as dashing! However, a potato sack is not so good to look at in a wedding album, is it? You will make him some really nice trousers, I am sure and Angelique will fall in love with him all the more because, "every girl's crazy about a sharp dressed man!" ( ZZTOP )

    3. Hahaha Elizabeth!! I loved ZZTOP when I was growing up! I had those ZZ's drawn in Sharpie on my very, very tight jeans (the kind you'd sew yourself into and we did not call them "skinny" jeans...) :-D

  6. I was big into gypsies, from India when I started minis. Just wanted to tell you you did a great job with that dress and the chair :).

Now I am going to pretend that the wedding has just been held and crash the party :)
