Preparations - Voorbereidingen

At 5 a.m. this morning, the sound of the cat about to regurgitate a hairball, reached deep into my sleep and I woke up immediately. I managed to avert the disaster and the cat went back to sleep happy. I however, was wide awake and decided I needed some coffee.
So very quietly I went downstairs, not wanting to wake Art and Angélique.
It was raining outside and 5 am on a Sunday. I was not very happy!

An hour later, the cat got up too and went outside. The rain had stopped but it still looked dark and gloomy.
On my way to the coffee machine, I suddenly spotted the breakfast table and our one and only chair outside the house with what looked like the left overs from breakfast.

I looked around but saw no-one. I tiptoed to the bedroom window and looked through the window, careful not to make any noise. I mean, imagine waking up with this giant eyeball looking at you through the window!
I could see Angélique fast asleep but no sign of Art. I don't even know where exactly he slept. I figured they would sort that out together. I didn't even have "the" talk. Should I have?

In the meantime the cat was coming back in and going out again, and back in, and out.... If you are owned by a cat, you'll know cats can't stand closed doors. So I left the back door open. A hesitant ray of sunshine was breaking through the clouds and it looked like the day would be a good one after all.
With a fresh cup of coffee, I walked outside and bumped into Art. Well, my big toe did :-)

"What are you doing up so early?" I asked.
"I'm checking out the best place to have our hand fasting ceremony" he replied.

"You know" I said "I don't mind organizing it all, but there are no guests to attend your ceremony".

He looked at me, put his hand on his forehead and shook his head. Then, he shrugged, raised his arms and said "Really? We have a house full of ancestors, a garden full of fairies, a hedgehog, butterflies and dragonflies and more cats than we care for, and you have no guests? You know, not so long ago, we Gypsies did not travel with caravans. Instead we'd sleep outside in makeshift tents and trust mother nature to provide us with a safe shelter, food to harvest and water to drink. All Angélique and I want is to be joined together with all of nature's creatures as our witnesses. And you of course. We need photos after all '.
"Ow, thanks. I think" I replied and realised that even my own fantasy had not gone this far.
I felt a bit silly and trotted back inside, leaving Art at the fairy cottage where he was kindly invited in.

Once inside I saw the façade of the house wide open and no sign of Angélique. I suppose if you can't open the windows and still want to air the room, you just open the façade. Life in miniature does have its advantages.
I heard some noise coming from the attic and that's where I found Angélique rummaging in an old chest filled with fabric and lace.

We went through it together for a while and Angélique assures me there's plenty to choose from to make her a dress. She wants something fitted, a mermaid maybe. It's a good thing I watch "Say Yes to the Dress"! We agreed the attic would be the perfect place to make and keep the dress so Art wouldn't see it. Although we have to keep an eye on him. He goes walkabout a lot.
When I came down from the attic, I found him sitting at the table outside the house again. This time studying some plans of the house. What's he up to now?

To be continued - Wordt vervolgd.

  1. Oh, how Wonderful!!! You are gong to make the wedding dress! I mean,"handfasting" dress! That wooden chest is Gorgeous! And I Love the glimpse into the Fairy House! You better watch out... this "we have no guests" thing has gotten me into a LOT of Trouble!!! I had to "find" all the friends and relatives.... and then get them dressed in appropriate wedding clothes before I could hold my wedding! It took weeks to put together! Maybe you should trust Art and just have the ceremony with Mother Nature to officiate!!! (And you, of course for the pictures! LOL!)
I am enjoying your story so Very much!!!

    1. Thank you! :-) I will TRY to make the dress. This is all very tiny. As a child, when playing with my Barbies, I used to pull off my socks, cut one opening for the head, two for the arms and presto! A new dress. Imagine the smell when I opened the bag years later:-D. I am with you on the "no guest" issue. I read your entire Wedding documentary (loved every bit of it!) and saw all the beautiful clothes and am ever so glad Art suggested to do without all that. The fairies and garden gnomes will do just fine. I you want more on the fairy house, they are on one of the other pages on my blog. They have taken over the garden. Between them and the doll house, there's a tiny space left for me ;-) Glad you are enjoying the story. We'll see what tomorrow brings!

      Véronique
