De slaapkamer - The bedroom Part 1

The first room I am going to tackle is the bedroom for the simple reason it is the most accessible: biggest opening and right height.
First I am going to ground everything white so that I can either paint or wallpaper without problems later. As I am painting, I do the staircase as well. That proves a challenge. This house is already built and has been glued to withstand a cyclone, so the only way to reach the stairs with a paintbrush is the small half round window at the back of the house, coincidentally the only window without glass. It proves more difficult than I thought and as of now, I still haven't found a solution.

Werkvolgorde - The order of things

I checked the openings for the doors - grounded walls and floor - put the wallpaper up - put the wainscoting on the walls - fitted the door (though not glued so as to be able to wallpaper the wall on the other side).

De muren - The walls

The drawback of the readily available specialized doll house wallpapers, is that they have to be to your taste and they are not cheap. You could search the internet for specialized suppliers with original designs but your wallet might not appreciate it. Because this house is a trial house and I want to most of all learn and make mistakes without having to break the bank, I decided to print my own wallpaper. An additional advantage is that you can make your own matching fabric.
I got my wallpaper and instructions on how to print on fabric from the above mentioned links.

De vloer - The floor

From a bamboo place mat, I made a floor. First I separated all the bamboo slats, degreased them and painted them with Gesso and acrylic. I made a template from brown packaging paper (available for free at packaging counters) exactly to the measurements of the room. I glued the floor on the template with Tacky glue and glued the complete template in the room with double sided tape. Should I want to change the floor in the future, I can easily remove this one.

I didn't think about wainscoting nor researched  it beforehand. I just went ahead and came up with something from cardboard (frozen pizza box). It doesn't look like much like this but once painted and mounted it looks good enough. Since then I have gathered a lot more information, here is one possibility:

I wanted something different for a fireplace, a bit more organic so I built one from air drying clay. The ornaments were also made from clay in a Fimo mold.

Painted and distressed, it looks rather neat!

I should have replaced the window frames but they are glued so tight I just gave up...

  2. I love the choice of wallpaper pattern Veronique, and I also like the way that you are taking the bull by the horns and learning new techniques and making the dollhouse look good in the process! It must have been so difficult getting the paint on the stairs and yet it made a very entertaining story the way that you presented it and they look very good too! Keep up the great work that you are doing. I like it all Very Much!
